PROFILE
/
Nusaiba is a multi-disciplinary artist with a wealth of experience across the faith, fashion and education industries. She is also the Founder and Director, of the world's first Islamic creative arts school, WAW Creative Arts, which is a bridge between her journey as a creative professional and a Quran teacher and reciter.
Nusaiba’s academic education is in Fashion Textiles and Design, which she completed at University for the Creative Arts, UK and her Quran and Arabic education began in Dar Al Furqan, Saudi Arabia and completed in IESH (European Institute of Human Sciences), France. In 2006, at the age of 13, Nusaiba became the first female Quran Reciter to win the National Qiraat Competition. Given that this was a global platform, Nusaiba gained a lot of attention - amassing over 3 million views on YouTube.
Nusaiba’s professional work in faith and fashion quickly became popular, and interested many mainstream media platforms, citing her balance between her faith and creative work to be very unique. This resulted in features in BBC, Channel 4, British Vogue and Evening Standard in the UK, and various mainstream platforms across Middle East, Switzerland, Denmark and Malaysia. She was also the first influencer from the Western hemisphere to be featured on the 2015 cover of Hijab Fesyen Magazine, Malaysia’s top modest fashion publication.

Nusaiba’s work also addresses cultural traditions that have displaced historical teachings on the permissibility of females to recite the Quran in public. Last year, Nusaiba filmed a video with BBC World Service addressing this issue, which went viral internationally on all BBC platforms globally.
Nusaiba has been a role model for young girls from the age of 12. Her purpose after winning the national Quran competition and to this day, is to focus her energy to inspire the next generation and to make positive changes to the Islamic society and the world at large. She has dedicated her life’s work to building a bridge between western culture and the Islamic Society, to demonstrate what it truly means being a Muslim and particularly a Muslim woman. What is unique about Nusaiba, is that she uses her popularity to be approachable and to create safe spaces for conversations about Islam. She challenges stereotypes around Muslims at her school, WAW Creative Arts, where she is teaching how Islamic values are shared across different faiths and can act as a vessel for unity and peace. This mission can be found within the school’s name - WAW stands for ‘Who Are We’.
Nusaiba has been teaching Quran to males and females of all ages from the age of 14. Her 1-1 classes have become increasingly popular due to the unique nature of it. She teaches how to recite with correct tajweed (pronunciation) but also how to explore vocal abilities to be able to recite with a tune as opposed to just reading. She has recently reached new audiences outside of the Islamic faith, and is currently teaching Quran to Peter Oborne, a prominent British journalist and broadcaster.

Nusaiba is also a highly recognisable figure within the Muslim community, and as such has been featured as one of 100 most inspirational Muslims in the UK by the Emerald Network, the UK's largest Muslim professional networking community.
